About
The pulmonology and respiratory care unit at Dr. Samir Abbas hospital responds to patient needs regarding various lung disease and disorders at inpatient, outpatient and critical care facilities. Various services are provided at high international professional and scientific standards in cooperation with other hospital departments including cardiology, ENT, Radiology, pharmacy and Laboratory services.
Services
- Pulmonary/respiratory problems covered by our pulmonary and respiratory services include but not restricted to the following:
- Obstructive airway diseases including Bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
- Interstitial Lung Diseases including Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.
- Causes of shortness of breath and chest pain.
- Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome and sleep studies.
- Prescription of CPAP/BIPAP machines for persons living with sleep apnea together with regular follow up service.
- Venous thrombo-embolism (including pulmonary embolism) and pulmonary hypertension.
- Pneumonias and other upper and lower respiratory tract infections.
- Assessment of pulmonary function using spirometry and preparation of respiratory patients before surgery.
- Respiratory failure and the use of invasive mechanical ventilation and non-invasive ventilation both at hospital and at home.
- Smoking cessation counselling.
